Chiropractic to Treat Whiplash
Whiplash is a term that describes an abrupt flexion and extension of the neck and back causing damage to the spine including surrounding muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints, and nerves. Automobile accidents are a common cause of whiplash. Common symptoms of whiplash include neck pain, back pain, headaches, dizziness, numbness in the hands and feet, tiredness, and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems. Sometimes whiplash injuries initially don’t have symptoms and can go undetected for years leading to even more serious conditions. Chiropractic care is a proven and effective way to treat whiplash and offers relief and long term benefits for proper healing.
My office provides several procedures that minimize the long-term impact of whiplash injuries as well as offering pain relief. A thorough examination is done initially to determine the extent of the injury and includes a history of trauma, orthopedic testing, neurological testing, posture evaluation, range of motion testing, comparative muscle testing, reflex testing, gait evaluation, palpation, and x rays or magnetic resonance imaging if necessary.
Manual manipulation of the spine is used to restore the normal movement and position of the vertebrae. Often I utilize a combination of manual therapy, massage, trigger point therapy, ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, exercise rehabilitation, ice, heat and traction to speed up the recovery process.
For patients needing medical referral, I have built a professional referral network with many specialties including orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, internal medicine doctors, osteopaths, MRI centers and pain management specialists.
